The Oriel Choir have just returned from their annual tour, which this year took them to Italy where they performed at venues in Milan, Lodi and Crema.

Following on from last year's trip to the Côte d'Azur, this year the Choir, along with Choir Director David Maw, travelled to the Lombardy region of northern Italy, where they were hosted by Giampiero Innocente, Director of the Collegium Vocale di Crema.

During their five-night stay, the Choir were based in the town of Lodi, just south-east of Milan, where they stayed at the Collegio San Francesco, a local secondary school.

The group hit the ground running, and after an early start the first day of the tour was taken up with travel and rehearsals for the next night's opening concert in the concert hall at the Università Cattolica in Milan. The Choir received a warm welcome from the audience, and the first concert went well.

After further rehearsals and some time for sightseeing, the Choir's next performance was in Lodi, at the Chiesa di San Francesco, a beautiful late 13th century church with stunning frescoes. The third concert, on the penultimate night of the trip, was held in the town of Crema in the 16th century Chiesa San Bernardino.

It was a busy schedule of concerts for a five-night tour and demanding on the vocal chords, but before they returned home the Choir managed to fit in one final performance, singing mass and several motets at a midday service at the Basilica San Marco in Milan before heading to the airport for their flight.

The Choir and College are very grateful to Giampiero Innocente for organising this year's tour, and for looking after the group so well during their stay.

Photographs of the Choir's performances can be seen above, and a video of the Choir in action (courtesy of Giampiero Innocente and the Collegium Vocale di Crema) can be viewed below.
